ANNUAL GLIMPSE OF SNEHA JYOTHI BOARDING 2017-18 : Vimukti Pothnal
“Children are the world’s most resource and its best hope for the future”- John F Kennedy
Children are the light of the society. Tomorrow’s future of the society depends upon the today’s children. Today the situations have changed in getting the children educated by making them sit in the four walls of the class-room. But it is all about the holistic development. A rank holder at studies may not rank in the society. A man with human values, right judgment and capable discretion has respect in the society. The education system has become so challenging today. It needs to be updated to make children love learning through innovative way of leaning. Children are the source they are the future. With all this aspects in mind the Sneha Jyothi Boarding has been trying its best from many years to give children not only the accommodation and food but also a valuable opportunity, spirit filled and humane atmosphere to bloom and enjoy their childhood through learning and activities.

Survey on progress on new project “Bridget IT- Digital Entrepreneur program: Vimukti Pothnal
In recent years, there has been paradigm shift in the development of youth in India with a huge focus on livelihood development through micro entrepreneurship. A severe lack of job opportunities for youth, especially rural youth, has led to entrepreneurship, even at the micro level, as a necessary and viable alternative for livelihood generation. Providing the opportunity for youth to successfully start and run a small business will improve rural economy and lead to better quality of life for the youth, their families, and their communities. Promoting rural enterprise will also serve as a key to stem the migration of youth and bring about a reduction in the number of youth who move away from their communities in search of employment elsewhere. With the advancement of technology, and the ever growing reliance on digitalisation, rural communities are fast being left behind on the availability of technology based services.

Br Crispin Lobo lived with us, prayed with us, smiled and laughed with us for over eight years. He even served the Saccidananda Community as the Guardian for three years and served it with great love and care. Now it is time for him to say goodbye to Saccidananda and move ahead to his new home at Monte Mariano, Farangipet. The transfer apparently seemed untimely, however was much needed as he required better medical care. A thanksgiving Eucharist was organized on 15.04.2018 and the ‘extended family’ of Saccidananda joined their voices in praying for Br Crispin’s good health and happiness after which they all wished brother well. Vimukti women take initiative to create voters’ awareness:
Vimukti organized an innovative campaign in Sunkanoor on Saturday when Vimukti women group visited each home and appealed the occupants to exercise their franchise without fail. Amidst hot weather women along with Anganwadi, ASHA workers and the school teachers, visited families and appealed them to compulsory cast their votes in the coming assembly elections. Women walked in the villages and distributed pamphlets among people to create awareness. It is important for voter turnout that local and state voting policies and procedures are public knowledge. Often, voters do not know where, when and how to vote. Public awareness campaigns can encourage voter participation and make important information ubiquitous, thereby reducing barriers at the ballot box. Thus Vimukti spread the public awareness in the villages of our targeted area.

Ex-Alumni day at Darshan Inst. of Theology
The memories of the past
Came to our minds so fast
As the brothers whom God had cast
Came alive in (D.I.T.H.) Darshan Institute of Theology so vast

They came and in humble gesture kneel
With God’s grace and as Franciscans they gave us the feel
That the gospel of the day invited us to heal
From all the stains of leprosy to peel and in Christ be seal.

As the Junior priests gathered at FISI for JPG (Junior Priests’ Gathering) we had a golden opportunity to host the ex-alumni day at our Darshan Institute of Theology. Be Green Go Green : Assisi School Chikodi
Recently, Chikodi region had good showers. St. Francis of Assisi School thought it’s an apt time to celebrate Vanamohotsava. On 26-07-2017, Children came with green dress, carrying plants in their hands. A solemn assembly was conducted by the students under the title ‘Be Green, Go Green’. The Principal in his short message gave a clarion call to students to take the example of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron of the school, the patron of ecology . St. Francis showed great respect to the mother earth, the plants and the creatures of this planet. Children, who contributed plants were appreciated for their generosity towards school garden. They sang the canticle of Brother Sun and praised God for the beautiful creation. After the assembly students planted the plants in the garden. We are also thankful to Rev. Frs. Sathish Fernandes and Edwin for their presence, expertise and support during the setting out the plants in the soil.
